I am a firm believer that there are many ways to say 'I love you' and many times these actions speak louder than words, other times it's a whisper and you may have to look a little harder to find little messages of love.
Here in Australia, it is Valentine's Day today. It is a day to celebrate those you love and for many it is a wonderfully exciting day and for many others it is an extremely sad day as no flowers arrive at the door or no special valentine gift is received. Therefore I always look on Valentine's day with mixed feelings.
In our little family, we try to say 'I love you' everyday, so we don't really celebrate Valentine's Day in a major way, however I thought it would be nice to do a little something special for my family today. I decided a little baking was in order, so Emily and I set to work baking a delicious cake for the boys. You see, one of the ways I like to say 'I love you' to my family is by taking care of them, and I especially love baking delicious treats for them to eat.
Initially I contemplated making a packet Chocolate cake, as it is easy and hubby LOVES Chocolate cake, but then I though, no, I'd love to make something we haven't had before and something made from scratch.
I am not even sure (can't remember) how I stumbled upon this recipe but I had kept it open on my desktop for days so decided that I would try and make this delicious looking 'Lemon Yoghurt cake with Syrup'.
I was very pleased that this cake was quite easy to make and even more pleased when it came out of the oven and had worked perfectly. The recipe calls for a syrup to be poured over it once it comes out of the oven, and then you have to wait another 30 minutes before serving. I must confess that I am pretty sure we cut that time a little shorter, we just couldn't wait any longer to try it.
Emily and I decided that a taste test was in order before the boys came home, so we might have eaten one or two pieces each - shhh. It was the most delicious and moist cake.
So tonight when hubby gets home from work there won't be any flowers or chocolate for him, but he will be greeted with a coffee and piece of handmade cake, both made with love.
I know there won't be any flowers for me either and I am totally OK with that. Hubby regularly buys me a chocolate when doing the grocery shopping without being asked, or hangs out the washing for me, runs the kids to dancing and works hard for our family - that is 'flowers' enough for me. (Don't get me wrong, I really LOVE flowers too, but I love the dishes being done more)
I hope your day has been special however you have spent it and I hope there is a little bit of yummy cake (or chocolate) involved too. If you would like to make this delicious cake for yourself or for your family, you can find the recipe HERE. Trust me, it's scrumptious. xx
