This past Monday was a very special day for my son Jasper, it was his 11th birthday. As per tradition in our family, his birthday began the night before with the decorating of his bedroom. Now that my kids are older, we can't sneak around decorating while they sleep, so Jasper went to sleep in our bed and then we took him to his room once we were done. It was lots of fun and quite a challenge to think of another different way to decorate his room. You can read about some of his previous birthdays HERE and HERE.
At the moment, Jasper is obsessed with the stage musical, Mary Poppins. He lives and breathes it, so I used this as inspiration to decorate his room. This year we decorated with umbrellas, balloons and streamers.
We wrapped his presents and placed them at the end of his bed - but soon moved them to his dresser as he is now too tall to leave his presents there anymore.
Once his room was finished it was time to maneuver him back to bed and wait until the morning. I must confess I found it hard to get to sleep that night as I was so excited to be celebrating Jasper's special day with him.
Bright and early on his birthday morning, Jasper woke us all with his beautiful excited face, ready to start celebrating his special day and open his presents too. We spoiled Jasper this year with a few longed for gifts as well as some new clothes and a very special pair of shoes that he was desperately hoping for too. (please excuse the somewhat blurry photos, it was VERY early in the morning so the lighting wasn't great)
Here he is waiting to open his presents. I love that happy face!
Jasper had been asking almost daily for a few very special Mary Poppins items ever since he attended the stage musical during the year with the school choir, like a stage musical catalogue and his very own special Mary Poppins umbrella. I think these photos show how excited he was to receive such longed for gifts and I am sure the neighbours heard the screams of delight too. He was one happy boy!
Opening up the next present shocked Jasper into silence, which let me tell you is pretty rare for this boy, he makes noise and or sings wherever he goes! We love this about him but I must admit it was fun to shock him too.
I think he was pretty happy!!
Jasper was also very excited to open a present containing a pair of Vans shoes. I must confess I hadn't heard of these much before and don't understand the hype, but he is happy and that makes my Mummy heart happy too. I am just crossing my fingers he doesn't grow out of them too quickly.
After opening his presents, we headed outside so that he could try out his very special present, a new bike. He had long ago outgrown his old bike, so the time was right to get him a bigger one. He will take a little while to adjust to this new bike with all it's gears and different brakes etc, but he had a smile on his face the whole time - he loves it!
Jasper's breakfast of choice for his special day was chopped up fruit with yogurt and cinnamon on top - nice and healthy and yummy too.
After breakfast it was time to get ready for school. He was SUPER excited because they were having a very special day at school, which included dressing up and all sorts of fun activities all day - so I will leave that for another post.
Birthday's are so much fun! I am just so glad my boy could have such a special day. I wish time would slow down a little though, he sure is growing up very fast! Happy Birthday Jasper xx
