my brand new quilt, called 'Forest Hill'. This quilt is something I have been wanting to show you for the longest time, so to be able to finally show you is an exciting day indeed. I just wish you could all pop into my studio so I could show you in person, it's looks so much nicer in real life.
OK, enough chatter - here is the story behind 'Forest Hill' and a few quick photos to show you...
Those of you who are long time followers of my blog and patterns will remember my quilt called 'Candy Girl'. Over the years after releasing this quilt, I had many requests for a matching quilt. Lots of ladies had made this quilt for their daughter or granddaughter, and wanted another for their other girl. So when thinking about making a matching quilt, I just KNEW it had to involve trees - you see, I adore trees and this quilt just had to be made.
I decided I also wanted this quilt to match my 'Little Tree Fabric Boxes'. That way, you can decorate a whole bedroom with coordinating stitched items, all matching and designed by me. So I used scrappy log cabin blocks, teamed with blanket stitch applique blocks to complete this quilt.
I gathered together some of my most favourite, happy coloured fabrics and got busy stitching and making my new quilt, 'Forest Hill'.
After a FULL week of quilting, I am very excited to reveal my new quilt 'Forest Hill'. It is a single bed sized quilt however with a few changes to the border sizes, would easily fit a king single or double bed. Below, the I have placed 'Forest Hill' on a double bed, just to give you an idea of how big it is.
I decided to echo quilt my quilt, so I have stitched 1/4 inch either side of each seam and around the applique shapes too. It was lots of stitching but I am thrilled with the results.
I had to include a few bluebirds too, because no forest is complete without a few resident birds as well!!
So there you have some quick shots of my latest design and new quilt 'Forest Hill'. As per most of my patterns, I intend to include a little something extra in this pattern, so have a little more stitching to do, then pattern writing before releasing this pattern. I promise you it wont be long, I can't wait to release this pattern.
And, I just wanted to add, that I think this design would be perfect as a boys quilt as well. With just a few fabric colour changes, and maybe the birds supplemented with a different critter, Forest Hill would be perfect for any boys room as well.
I am always a little nervous revealing my new designs, however I just love this quilt so much that I feel sure you will too... Back soon to show you the little 'something extra' to match this quilt as soon as it is complete. xx Janelle
